Social media MUSIC in Competition

As time goes by so do we, and this has led to changes in the way we socialise and operate. As technlogy has developed, it has become ubiquitous, significantly for the better of businesses. The Music Industry has become increassingly dependent upon technlogy, including the computer and the internet. As social addicts, we spend hours and hours using technology, which inlcude mobiles, mp3 players and computers, to buy and listen to our music. Therefore, as an artist establishing the name in the industry would require the use of new and emerging technology. As an atist you must be aware of how and what would be required to enter the social media era. Therefore, certain factors would be neccessary to consider for the short term and the long term. Genrally in the short term an artist should search for simple services that would help promote thier songs and thus increase popularity. This would be recommended for those who are fresh to the music market. The long term solution would be to maintain their status thorugh current services, however begin to setup more productive and efficient services, inlcuding thier own website.

P2P Downloading

The problem these days are that too many people are downloading illegally. However, it seems as though it has become a major challenge as to how to tackle the perpetrators. As of ever, it seems there are a large number of file sharing sites that increase usage and encourage sharing illegally. Websites including Bittorrent and Limewire etc. Although we cannot blame them entirely, as the majority of the blame should be directed towards those who use them. Therefore, what would be the best possible solution to tackle illegal downloading?

How GOOD IS BPSD: IT?

BPSD: IT is an IT Specialist Company that provides technical repairs, services and sell retail brand products. It has an e-commerce website, where the primary purpose seems to aid the needs of users online who want buy IT hardware and software components. The secondary purpose of the website appears to be to provide technical advice, through a contact form. The two purposes and the website as a whole, show that maybe it is aimed at people who use computers or possibly work in an IT related field. However, it is very difficult to judge whether the website is aimed at a single demographic group.

The focal Problem with the website is that its structure seems very weak and confusing. While viewing the home page I found that the left side of the page contained many navigational sections. However a user would have to scroll down to the bottom in order to view the information section or either search for a product. The consequences may mean a novice user may not be able to find the search button and have no option to find a specific product type.

The second problem that I found was a lack of accessibility. The problem lied within the creation of the website, as they were no adjustments made to the page when the text size had been adjusted; via the web toolbar. This could result in potential users with a vision disability not being able to read or see images on the website, thus losing a specific demographic group.

A website is required to ‘fulfil its purpose’, which is another focal disadvantage of BPSD: IT, in comparison to other websites who succeed. BPSD: IT offer users to view particular IT products and purchase them. The process seems systematically straight forward and simple to understand. However, it lacks accessibility when navigating through the production process, as it can be picked up by the security software as harmful; thus stopping my transaction process. This can be quite frustrating and time consuming for a user.

However, a positive obtained from the website is that it provides a category on the left side of the home page, which can reduce the amount of time searching for a product. This facility is useful when a user does not know what there product is called, but knows what category it may come under. The Products category can also be seen as the main feature demonstrating that it is an IT e-commerce website, which is useful when getting across to the user; the initial purpose of the website.

One task carried out was to test the efficiency and purpose for buying a product, which I chose LCD monitors. I selected the LCD category, and chose a ‘Scenicview ‘monitor. I clicked buy now which took me to the basket; were I confirmed my order. When I reached the checkout  I had to fill in my details and later confirm my payment through a secure payment system. If a mistake occurred I could easily amend sections.

The other task I carried out was to retrieve advice on a problem. I selected consulting and typed in a breif problem in the section provided. I added in my name and contact details. I found this straight forward and easy to understand.

Apple 3G iPhone Interface and Apps

Currently we seem to be using technology more than ever before! As seen through the evolution of the mobile. Mobile phones have developed rapidly over time, especially since it was 1st established on the market in 1983. We all remember the phrase “Brick phones”; well it seems like the common Motorola DynaTAC and the Nokia 9000 Communicator, have simply been extinct. Due to a wide range of mobile company’s such as Nokia and now 3G, which was established in 2001, have use their expertise to continuously develop more sophisticated and dynamically functioning mobile phones. Rapid changes, which seem to never end, have also seen mobiles change shape, size, colour and motion. In addition to this, the new generation has seen great strides in such developments, which have produce mobiles with applications and computer components. At first we would be using the simple mobile applications, such as SMS and caller recognition. However now users can use their mobile to access the internet, use office files, play games and watch and listen to music and videos; anywhere in the world. The latest mobile technology has provided the world with the “I- Phone” (inset), which provides thousands of applications, including navigational systems, twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Shopping organisers etc.

Technology in general have vastly developed, and as expected they have now become ubiquitous; which includes the mobile phone. Mobiles have introduced a new niche in the technology market, and thus we find that people a far from happy with what mobile they have in their pocket. As a result we find that more and more people buy new phones quite often, which can possibly suggests people want to keep up with the trend or simply to keep up with technology.

What is Micro-Blogging

Micro-Blogging is an online service that allows users to share information through simple messages, called posts. To post a message the user must sign up to a blog service, such as WordPress and Twitter and each post is approximately 140 characters. Posts can be shared with many people and can be about a variety of topics, through various media sources, which can be retrievable by recipients.

Micro-Blogging can be used as a learning facility. It can be seen as a useful resource to locate appropriate information, improve communication for work and presentations, providing useful feedback from peers; as expressed further in the two links above. The following example is about Harold who explains how he uses blogging in learning. Users can share information and interact with the provider, which is limited through general search engines, like Google. Learners can operate this facility through Twitter and Jaiku. However, the same advantages that Micro-Blogging can bring, can be achieved through instant messaging, chat rooms and forums.
