What is Micro-Blogging
October 21, 2009 in Networking by Arif Ramtoola
Micro-Blogging is an online service that allows users to share information through simple messages, called posts. To post a message the user must sign up to a blog service, such as WordPress and Twitter and each post is approximately 140 characters. Posts can be shared with many people and can be about a variety of topics, through various media sources, which can be retrievable by recipients.
Micro-Blogging can be used as a learning facility. It can be seen as a useful resource to locate appropriate information, improve communication for work and presentations, providing useful feedback from peers; as expressed further in the two links above. The following example is about Harold who explains how he uses blogging in learning. Users can share information and interact with the provider, which is limited through general search engines, like Google. Learners can operate this facility through Twitter and Jaiku. However, the same advantages that Micro-Blogging can bring, can be achieved through instant messaging, chat rooms and forums.
